Evaluation of Cosmopolitan magazine 



      Cosmopolitan magazine is a world-wide known monthly magazine, specified for women between the age 20-40. The magazine contains fashion, beauty and health advice, and even interviews with famous models, or celebrities.

       On the front page the title and the model can be seen, who is a singer and actress, Selena Gomez, and also some brief description of the topics, which can be found in the magazine. In every publication appears a famous person on the front page. The title “Cosmopolitan” refers to women, who are from a big city, and know a lot about different people and fashion around the World. The whole title can not be clearly seen, because the middle part is covered by the model’s head, but it is still definitely recognizable. It is recognizable only because it is a very well known magazine, and the readers who buy it regularly know how this magazine looks like. The model becomes part of the title, it may try to suggest to the readers, that if they buy the magazine, they could become a cosmopolitan woman for the time they read the magazine, and if they accept their fashion and love advice. 

      The color of the front page is red and the model also wears a reddish dress. The brief description of topics are all white or black. The more interesting topics are written in bigger font size, and the most common typefaces on the page are Helvetica and Times New Roman. This publication came out in December, 2014 and the red coloring could refer to the Holiday Season, to Christmas. Comparing to spring or summer editions, it is not so light colored and bright.

       The lead story of this December edition, is what to wear on Christmas. There are tips and ideas for the best outfit and accessories for Christmas Eve. This is indicated as “Shine” in italics with the biggest font size. There are also some advice in connection with love life and carrier, in smaller font sizes. The magazine consist of 152 pages. All the topics are for women about fashion, health and love life in the spirit of Christmas. 

      There is a wide range of adverts in the magazine, on almost every second page. Almost 50% or more of the magazine is taken up by adverts. Most of them are about perfumes, jewelries and clothes. Moreover, there are adverts for spare time activities; movie, theater and book recommendations. The target audience of these adverts are middle, or upper class women. It can be seen on the adverts and the products, and the price of the products. 

      In conclusion, all the articles and adverts use a friendly informal language, to get closer to the readers, and encourage them to take their advice into consideration, and buy the products they offer them. The target audience for the whole magazine, as for the adverts, are women from the middle and upper class in their young and middle ages.
